Economic warfare is nothing new. The US’ oil embargo on the Empire of Japan in 1941 was considered the last straw by Tokyo, which later launched a massive attack on Pearl Harbor in December of that year. However, the prevalence of this kind of warfare has become ingrained in US foreign policy. It has become so prevalent that nations such as Iran and Russia are witnessing the most aggressive sanctions in human history.
